What kind of Scotch Whiskey is best to leave on the shelf?

I have a friend turning 21, and I want to get her a bottle of scotch. She’s not much of a drinker, and I know scotch is better with age. Any suggestions as to which brand to buy her if she’ll leave it on the shelf for years and years (unless the apocalypse approaches)?

It doesn’t age in the bottle. Once it’s bottled the aging process is finished. You can find Scotch that was aged 7 years for about $30 a bottle and some that was aged 40 or 50 years that will set you back well over $1,000 per bottle.

Johnny Walker Blue Label is excellent and about $200 a bottle.
Johnny Walker Gold Label is good and $80 a bottle.
Johnny Walker Black Label is good and about $40 a bottle
